In 2021 I holidayed in Scotland and completed some of the North Coast 500. I stayed in a beautiful holiday cottage that had a phenomenal view of the sea through floor to ceiling windows and was a beautiful spot for my yoga practice.
The holiday cottage had numerous pieces of artwork hung on the walls, but one that I fell in love with was one by Avril Paton called Neighbours because it is a concept that I love captured in a painting; seeing snapshots of peoples lives through windows of a home.
Ever since I was a little girl I have always felt a sense of warmth walking past people's homes and being able to see through the windows during the winter months, when it is dark outside and the lights are on inside, showing me a place of homeliness and belonging.
I see windows as eyes into a home and they show a snapshot in time, often showing the most mundane moments of life; but yet they can be the most simple and beautiful moments and often what we take for granted.
Couples cuddled up on the sofa watching their favourite programme.
Family gatherings around the dinner table.
Sitting in a favourite armchair reading a book under a blanket.
Playing with the dog on the floor with his favourite toy.
Games nights with friends
Family movie nights.
Best friends putting the world to rights.
Christmas trees and decorations filling the room with Christmas magic
A home is a special thing and it encapsulates who you are with what you fill it with, who you welcome into it and how you choose to spend your time in it, so seeing through the window can show you a lot about who lives there.
So what if I was to ask you what someone would see if they looked into your home and were to see a snapshot;
Is it what you want?
Do you like who you are?
Do you want to be surrounded by who and what you are surrounded by?
Are you happy?
Do you want to stay?
Do you want this life?
If the answer is no to any of these then start thinking about your window and what you want people to see:
Who are you?
How do you feel?
How do you look?
Who are you surrounded by?
What are you doing?
What sentimental items fill your home?
What can you hear?
Start building that life now and come home to a window that shows you the life that you truly want.
If you don't know where to start then get in touch. I would love to help and support you.
