Moving to The Lakes - What Chances are You Afraid to Take?

Wow, it has been a while since I have written a blog, there are multiple reasons for that and I will talk about that another time.

But today, I want to talk about taking chances.

Over the last few years, I have taken a number of chances that didn't make sense to a number of people, and, to be honest, maybe they didn't make sense to me either, but deep down I knew they were the right ones to make. Because when you listen to your soul, it guides you in ways that your ego and mind cannot.

Ever since Megan's death, my dark night of the soul started and if I am truthful it lasted nearly four years. It is only now in 2026 that I feel like I am able to truly learn from it all, feel safe again and rebuild my life from a place of love rather than fear. But even in those really dark moments and dark years, I have always felt guided and I have become more connected to spirit and my soul than ever before, which has enabled me to take steps that most people wouldn't have taken or couldn't understand.

If there were ever moments of doubt, I would ask for a sign, and the signs would come. My family and close friends know all about my signs, from returning to a supermarket late at night to check a dinosaur Easter egg to walking into a random petrol station that sold rhino stickers, which obviously I purchased.

The truth is, the universe will always guide you; you just have to listen and, at times, ask and wait patiently for the guidance.

So when the opportunity to move to the The Lakes, to live and work on a no live stock farm in exchange for a home, I decided to take the chance.

The view from my window helped sell it too.

Just a day before the opportunity presented itself, I was talking about how we have the ability to shape and design our lives however we wish. A few months prior, I had visited The Lakes for the first time to celebrate my partner's birthday, and we stayed in a cute little AirBnB on a farm. During our stay, we talked about how ideal it would be to live in a place like that, working on the farm in exchange for a home to give us more freedom, a different quality of life, a new adventure and most of all another step out of the system.

Five months later, this vision has become a reality. Living in The Lakes, isolated on the hills, looking after dogs and horses, walks on the doorstep, a slower, more conscious way of living, engulfed by nature and the views that inspired the likes of Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth. Plus the puppies, let's not forget the puppies.

Do I think this is one of the biggest risks I have taken? Not really. However, I am uncertain if that's because I've taken different risks to change my life when I was dissatisfied and unhappy, choosing to listen to my soul and follow the guidance I received. With each change, risk and opportunity I take, my trust in the Divine plan grows stronger.

This week, I came across a quote from Tim Grover that feels highly relevant to this blog: "If you think the price of winning is too high, wait until you receive the bill from regret."

So I want you to ask yourself some questions, grab a journal and write whatever comes:

What chances are you afraid to take?

What is the worst that could happen? Is that fear real? Could you withstand and overcome 'the worst?'

What if it worked out? What would life be like?

Are you living a known hell due to the fear of the unknown? Why?

If you had nothing to lose, what choice would you make today?

If the next six months was how you wanted to live your life; what would you be doing? How would you be feeling?

Is there one small risk/change that you could make to strengthen your belief in something greater than yourself and recognize that you are constantly being guided?

Not every chance and risk you take will work out, and that's perfectly fine. It's part of the human experience to enjoy both the highs and the lows of life. It's better to attempt and fail than to never try at all. For those chances that do work out, you needed to take a leap of faith to discover if you can fly, because without taking the risk, you would never have found out.

Remember that you are meant for more

Samantha
